Event Time & Location
Background: The Llety Arall project was set up to purchase and convert a property in Caernarfon and to operate it as a meeting place and accommodation for those who wish to experience and learn about language, culture and heritage of the town and the area. The building will also contain retail space. The property will be owned and run by Llety Arall Cyf.
9 Stryd y Plas was identified as an attractive and suitable location for the project. It is located in the old walled town, close to the centre and on a busy and vibrant street. It is a four-storey building providing ample space to make a feasible and viable business. Planning permission has been obtained to convert the ground floor into a combination of meeting place, retail space and a fully accessible bedroom. The second and third floors will be converted into additional bedrooms, making eight bedrooms in total, and providing up to twenty bed spaces.
In January 2018 Llety Arall Cyf purchased the building, having raised £143,500 through their successful community share offer.
Study visit: In March 2018 Community Shares Wales organised a study visit in order to take 4 client groups to visit the scheme. The study visit began with a training session delivered by the CSW team with the committee members, and was then followed by a tour of the Llety Arall building and a presentation and Q&A with the Llety Arall directors.
Testimonial: ‘It exceeded my expectations, thank you...good event - with realistic feedback from people who had lived it!’
